Cllr, Stepfather Arrested After Boy's Death

FRANCISTOWN: Botswana Congress Party (BCP) Ipopeng ward councillor, Interest Tawele has been remanded in custody after the discovery of what is believed to be the remains of a missing 13-year-old boy in Block-Nine location.

The politician and the boy's stepfather Steve Phenyego were remanded for 14 days after they appeared briefly before a magistrate on Friday. They were arrested after the grisly discovery of the charred remains suspected by the police to be those of Lesego Phenyego last Wednesday evening. Francistown police boss Senior Superintendent Alakanani Makobo said the remains were found in a bad state in the thickets near Block-Nine. "Two men are helping the police with investigations and they appeared before court so that the court could give us more time to keep them in custody while we are pursuing our investigations," he said Makobo.

"Autopsy was conducted today (Friday) at the Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital and we are still waiting for the results from experts and it could possibly resolve this mystery," he added.
