Climatic conditions determine fishing rules official

The Department of Wildlife and National Parks, Fisheries Division has said that fishing seasons' regulations in Botswana are determined by climatic conditions and the breeding seasons of the different marine species.

Principal technical officer Supi Khuting told Mmegi yesterday that  factors that determine fishing regulations in Botswana are different from those obtaining in neighbouring Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa and Mozambique.

He said the population dynamics in Botswana’s natural and man-made water bodies on a yearly basis determine the period and time frame that fishing will have to be restricted.
