Chinese sponsors Motswana student

The Chinese Enterprise Association (CEA) has sponsored Tiiso Gabathusi to go for further studies in China for four years.

Gabathusi will study for a Bachelors degree in civil engineering at Zheijaing University College in Zhenjiang Province. The sponsorship covers her tuition fees. The CEA will foot her accommodation bills for the first three months before her parents take over. Speaking at the sponsorship ceremony recently, chairman of CEA, Zhang Guangcan, praised Botswana as a good country that has allowed the Chinese to invest in it and now they are giving back to the people. "We have sponsored her to the tune of RMB 63,600 almost equivalent to P63,600 here," he said. He said they plan to provide the same platform to other Batswana students hoping to further their studies in China. He said China is well placed to afford Batswana the best education with its advanced technologies. Zhang said that with the help of the Chinese Embassy, they hope to help more Batswana to study in China this year.

"We are happy to be helping a young Motswana, and hope we will be able to extend this to other Batswana as well this year. It is good for Batswana to study in China with the technology that we have there, and we believe the young woman will study hard. We may hire her when she returns as a qualified engineer to impart the knowledge she learned there," he said.
