Chinese group acts to boost skills among local labourers

A Chinese construction company, Zhengtai Group, has launched the "Itlhokotse Artisan Development Expo" as a way to develop construction skills among labourers.

The programme targets 750 semi-skilled labourers who will be trained accordingly during its implementation.

Officially launching the programme, which was introduced in July 2011, Chinese ambassador to Botswana, Liu Huanxhing stated at the weekend that the programme is a step in the right direction because a team of skilled workers is indispensable to any construction project.  "The artisan skill competition as part of the skills transfer programme launched by Zhengtai Group in July this year is really meaningful, because it will help raise the morale among the workers; it will increase the employees' team spirit and loyalty; and most importantly it will enable them to realise that with improved skills they stand a better chance of getting better jobs and better rewards", Liu noted.
