The late Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Dr. Micus Chimbombi, who passed away this weekend, will be laid to rest on Sunday at Makopong village in Kgalagadi, the government has announced.

Chimbombi passed away at the age of 65 on Saturday after a short illness. At the time of his passing, he was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kgalagadi South, following his victory in the 2024 General Election under the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

The Minister for State President Moeti Mohwasa has since communicated that the late Minister will be buried this weekend, while a memorial service will be held in the capital.

“Evening prayers will be hosted at the family farm in Tloaneng Monday and today (Tuesday) at 5:30 pm before transferring to Makopong where the prayers will continue until he is laid to rest on Sunday,” he communicated.

A memorial service in honour of Chimbombi, an accomplished civil servant, will be held tomorrow at the University of Botswana Indoor Sports arena at a time to be confirmed. MPs have been afforded the chance to attend the memorial service, as there will be no Parliament sitting tomorrow, Parliament has communicated.

A few days after his passing, President Duma Boko broke his silence on the passing of the former vice president of the Botswana National Front (BNF).

“It is with profound sorrow that I extend my deepest condolences on the passing of Minister Dr Micus Chimbombi, who was called to glory on Saturday. His departure is an immeasurable loss not only to his beloved family but to our entire nation,” Boko reckoned.

Boko has called on the public to celebrate Chimbombi for the type of man he was, not only as a minister or permanent secretary.

“As we grieve, let us also celebrate his life by upholding the values he championed: diligence, perseverance, and an unyielding dedication to the common good. To his family, I offer my deepest sympathies and stand with you in this time of unimaginable loss,” he said.
