Chain Letters: A Question Of Superstition?

Before e-mail forwards that cannot seem to stop circulating there were chain letters.

Our mothers and grandmothers believed in chain letters and they believed that chain letters just had to be distributed otherwise something bad was going to happen to them or their family members or something good, often in the form of a lot of money, was going to happen if they abided.

With the new technology chain letters vanished and even though they are still being forwarded through e-mails they do not have the same effect that they had several years ago.
