Centre for vulnerable children opened in Maun

MAUN: There is a growing number of families failing to raise their children in a loving homely environment, due to domestic inadequacies, the Minister of Local Government, Peter Siele says.

Siele was speaking at the official opening of the Lorato Rescue Centre which houses vulnerable children in the Ngamiland area in Maun last Friday. The centre is owned by the Love Botswana Outreach Mission which has been operating in Maun for the past 25 years.

Siele said that Botswana like other African countries, is going though rapid social, economic and cultural changes which have dented the extended family support structure that existed in the olden days. Such weakened families fail to provide care to their children without external support from government and non-governmental organisations, he said.
