Cellular phone snatcher caned and fined

A football match came to a halt when a man sped off with a cellular phone belonging to one of the players.

The friendly game between Police and Botswana Savings Bank employees on October 29 at Baphuting football grounds in Phiring could not go on when a spectator grabbed a cellular phone from a three-year-old and sped off. This was said at the Broadhurst Customary Court where Kesegofetse Kgoboge appeared for theft.

The complainant had left a cellular phone and car keys with his three-year-old daughter while he participated in the football match. A bystander, Kgoboge, who had declined to referee the match claiming he was in a hurry watched and did nothing. Kgoboge, 23, who had apparently been eyeing the items then grabbed the cellular phone and fled. Crying, the child ran onto the pitch and told her father what had happened.
