CDC acts to curb water shortages

SEROWE: Long-term plans are in place to address the problem of water shortages in the entire Central District Council (CDC), chairman Lesego Raditanka has announced.

Raditanka has said that to meet the demand most of the boreholes are either operated far beyond the recommended 10 hours a day or the supply is augmented by using water bowsers.

The current water shortage in the district is attributed to the boreholes drying up as a result of inadequate rains and over extraction resulting from long pumping hours, inadequate and unreliable ground water sources, poor water quality of high yield boreholes thus requiring treatment as well as water supply systems that have outlived design periods and therefore require rehabilitation and upgrading to meet increasing demand.
