Catholic Church quotes prohibitive price for land - Molefhi

Government is finding it difficult to deal with the Roma Catholic Church in Botswana, which owns a swathe of land on the southern part of Gaborone between Kgale View and Tsolamosese in Mogoditshane.

The Minister of Lands and Housing, Nonofo Molefhi, admitted yesterday that they have tried in vain to acquire the piece of land from the church, but it is demanding unaffordable prices.

Responding to a question in Parliament, Molefhi said that Farm Forest Hill 9-KO lies in the South East District just outside the Gaborone Township boundary.  "Government had attempted to acquire this farm in the past, but negotiations did not succeed, resulting in Government seeking alternative land for the expansion of the city northwards into (the) Kweneng District," he said.
