Despite the recent announcement of victory and the appointment of a new leader by the Mephato Reatile-led faction, Biggie Butale stands firm on his claim to the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) presidency.

Last week, a court order issued by Justice Zein Kebonang upheld the BPF’s decision to expel Butale from the party. In response, the faction declared Reatile as their new leader and revealed plans for an elective congress, signalling hope for the party’s future.

Butale, however, refuses to back down. Unsatisfied with the lower court’s ruling, he promptly filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal, seeking to challenge the decision that led to his suspension and subsequent expulsion from the BPF.
