BURS impounds contraband worth P3.4m

The Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS) has impounded goods worth P3.4 million from 20 cases it recorded from January to April this year, Mmegi has established.

"Some of the perpetrators were fined amounts ranging from P8,000 to P40,000," BURS's principal communications officer, Matshediso Pule, said in an interview.

Reports say among the items are counterfeit goods, drugs, arms and ammunition. Some of the contraband was destined for countries to the north of Botswana while others were addressed to local destinations. BURS Communications Department denied that their contraband included any of the goods mentioned above.
