The criminal case involving the alleged loss of millions of pula from the Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS) is opening a can of worms.

Head honchos within the agency are accused of depleting BURS coffers by authorising unaudited payments to companies in the form of refunds.

Mmegi is informed that the millions that the tax agency claims to have been lost through insider tax fraud were reportedly lost through a lack of value added tax (VAT) refund audits which companies took advantage of and cashed out.

Don't let FMD outbreak drag on

Acting Agriculture Minister, Edwin Dikoloti, is right in saying opening an export-ready facility whilst Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is still spreading would risk getting the whole country blacklisted before a single carcass leaves the door.A ban like that would break the already stressed nation.
