BTU regrets Khama's silence on public sector strike

Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) has expressed regret that President Ian Khama did not make any reference to the public sector strike in his state of the nation address on Monday.

The union said it was critical that the nation be taken through what really transpired during the strike and what the government is doing to ensure that such occurrences do not happen again.

Addressing members of the media yesterday BTU treasurer Roger Solomon said the aftermath of the strike still manifests itself within the workplace as evidenced by the tension that exists between workers who took part in the strike and those who did not. The union said the public service has not yet recuperated from the effects of the public strike.  "Emotions and tempers continue to flare in the workplace. Relationships are in jeopardy and production is largely affected," Solomon said.
