BPP Congress set for Nlapkhwane

FRANCISTOWN: The publicity secretary of the Botswana Peoples' Party (BPP), Thabani Peter, has announced that his party's 50th annual delegates' conference will be held at Nlapkhwane village in the North East District.

Speaking in an interview with The Monitor, Peter said that the conference would run from July16-18. The BPP leadership, according to Peter, will dedicate the last day of the conference to capacity building.  Concerned about the debilitating ignorance in the party regarding its role, a leadership seminar for central committee members, the women's wing and youth league leaders, regional, constituency, and branch chairpersons as well as their secretaries, and treasurers will be organised for them.

The BPP publicity chief further revealed that guest speakers from the other opposition parties as well as from unions, have also been invited to give solidarity messages. There are recent precedents to this. Other opposition parties gave similar solidarity messages at the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) inaugural congress two months ago. Opposition parties also gave solidarity messages at the meeting places of public service workers who were on the recently suspended nationwide strike over pay.
