BPC workers go to court over 'quit order'

Over 168 employees in Gaborone yesterday lodged a court case against the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) over a company notice, ordering them to quit their BPC Workers Union membership.

Initially 29 employees received letters from BPC in August 2009, instructing them to resign from the union.

The letters specifically instructed the union members to hand in their resignations from the union to the BPC management within 14 days of receiving the notice. The management prohibited employees from joining the union stating that management were the rightful employee representatives.
