BPC wins P2 million claim

The Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) has won its counter-appeal against Ramotswa Steel and Iron Company over a claim of over P2 million.

The case arose from the claim for arrear electricity charges amounting to P2,724,303.86 raised by BPC against the liquidator (Christopher John Bray) of the insolvent estate of the two aforementioned companies.

The companies were placed under liquidation on August 31, 2009, a time at which they owed BPC the disputed amount flowing from contracts for the supply of electricity. During the course of winding up the companies, Bray concluded an agreement with Easely Enterprises (Pty) Ltd for the sale of their assets, including leases of the properties on which their business had been conducted and to which BPC had supplied electricity.
