BPC demand side management pays dividends

The Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) 's demand side management, which has been on-going for the most part of this year, appears to have paid-off. The power utility has been on a campaign drive urging consumers to adopt ways of improving efficiency and avoiding power wastage.

Unlike in neighbouring South Africa where load shedding or power outages in layperson's parlance have been a fact of life in the recent past, Botswana has not yet been forced to take that route.  BPC spokesperson, Tlhomamiso Selato noted that Botswana has not had to effect load shedding so far.

She explained that the power outages that hit the country of late are normal faults that occur from time to time.  Selato, nevertheless, appealed to Batswana to heed the call to save electricity by switching-off non-essential electrical equipment and geysers if load-shedding measures are to be kept at bay in the future.
