Botswana's envoy wins top Gandhi Award

NEW DEHLI: Botswana's High Commissioner to India, Dorcas Kgosietsile has received the 2007 India Gandhi Priyadarshini Award at the National Conference on the "Role of Women in Building the Society" here.

The event, graced by India's political and corporate leaders was part of the just-ended International Women's Day celebrations.

Speaking at the March 15 conference, Kgosietsile said the capability and capacity to teach, nurture and counsel are given attributes to each and every woman, adding that women should therefore apply these talents prudently in the process of motherhood, and in turn equip society with the knowledge on the importance of women in nation-building.
She noted that the last few years have brought a positive understanding on the role of women, albeit with pockets of resistance within the predominantly patriarch communities, saying it was a welcome and commendable effort which should be embraced and continuously pursued.
