The Botswana Police Service is looking into possible embezzlement of huge amounts of funds by a yet to be named employee of Botswana Post in Gaborone.

The alleged misappropriation of funds is alleged to have taken place at the Botswana Post head office in Gaborone. Central Police Station commander, Kevin Mookodi, confirmed on Friday that indeed they are looking in to the case of possible embezzlement of funds at Botswana Post.

Mookodi told The Monitor that they received a report early this year and they are still investigating the case. He however could not state the exact amount, only saying that investigations are ongoing. A well-placed source told The Monitor that a high-ranking official of BotswanaPost is suspected to have embezzled money to the value of P1.2 million over a period of time. The Botswana Post spokesperson, Lebogang Bok, could not shed light on the ongoing police investigation relating to the alleged embezzlement. Bok however revealed that there are some employees of BotswanaPost who are undergoing disciplinary action relating to their work. "Yes we have officers who are currently undergoing disciplinary action and BotswanaPost is dealing with that internally. As of the P1.2 million funds missing, I cannot speak  of it," Bok said.
