Botswana, Zambia Worry Over Transnational Crime

The 12th session of the Botswana-Zambia Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security has expressed concern that the southern African region is increasingly becoming vulnerable to threats of terrorism, illegal migration, human and drug-trafficking and armed robberies.

The commission met in Lusaka last week. The two countries agreed to work relentlessly at strengthening bilateral, regional and multilateral mechanisms designed to overcome the trans-national security threats.

The commission expressed deep concern at the effects of HIV/AIDS on the two countries and the region and praised the efforts the two governments are taking in addressing the pandemic. The commission called on the international community not to relent in assisting countries in the region in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
