Botswana Post launches 'white rhino' stamp

Botswana Post last week launched the white rhino stamp issue. Issued in last month, the stamp features a four-hand painted images of white rhinoceros at the Mokolodi Nature Reserve and Khama Rhino Sanctuary.

The stamp issue was illustrated by local artist, Jacob Disele.  Speaking at the launch, Botswana Post chief executive officer (CEO), Pele Moleta said Disele's illustration has been recognised and endorsed by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as one of the best animal designs across the globe.

He said this was a momentous achievement for Disele, other local artists and the country, because no Motswana stamp artist has ever received such an accolade from an expert international organisation like the WWF.  Moleta said the white rhinoceros stamp seeks to highlight the plight of the rhino population in the country, which at some point was dissipated to the point of extinction.
