Botswana NGOs come of age

FRANCISTOWN: Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) play various vital roles that complement government’s efforts of developing the country. Some Batswana are of the view that the Sebina saga involving a councillor impregnating a senior secondary school girl has forced some NGOs to finally come out of their cocoons to play their advocacy roles.

Compared to their South African counterparts, local NGOs are arguably not vocal enough and hardly perform their mandate to meet the public expectation.

In South Africa, there are many NGOs that cater for the needs of different people. The NGOs on many occasions drag the government before courts of law if they feel that the state has trampled upon the rights of the people they represent.

Government’s efforts commendable!

Since the news broke, the government made sure to work hand in hand with the South African government to assist the families of the victims.
