The Market Research Report Title for East and Southern Africa Telecommunications, covering the first quarter of 2009, shows that Botswana's uptake continues to slow down while in other countries, the sector continues to grow rapidly. The report compiled by the Business Monitor International tracks patterns in the mobile industry in the east and southern regions of the continent. Countries like Kenya and Uganda continue to experience rapid growth in the sector with new entrants and established players moving to entrench their market share.
"In Uganda, where we expect to see the strongest subscriber growth over the next five years, we now predict that mobile penetration will reach 44% at the end of 2009 and almost 93% by the end of 2013. Meanwhile in Kenya and Tanzania, we predict annual average growth rates of around 30% over the next five years. Penetration is predicted to surpass 100% by the end of our newly extended forecast in 2013," states the report.
