Botswana gets P6m for weapons and training

Botswana is set to get P6.6m in military assistance and P565.7m in health-related assistance from the United States, Mmegi has established.

In her Congressional Budget Justification for the Financial Year Requests, American Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, revealed the total aid to Botswana earlier this year to be worth just over half a billion Pula, with much of the spending going to health, especially in HIV/AIDS-related assistance.

Clinton requested P572m (US$77.3m) for Botswana for the forthcoming financial year. As the last decade has indicated US aid in this sector is dominated by health-related assistance, mainly HIV/AIDS interventions, Clinton requested P565.7m (US$76.4m) for the health programme Global Health and Child Survival.
