At a press briefing last week, the visiting UNICEF deputy regional director, Dorothy Rogza said that over 90 percent of mothers are tested and very few babies are born with HIV.
"It is extraordinary. It is an example to the rest of the continent; a gold or platinum star."
Rogza was in Botswana for the first time to look at the situation of children at the health, education, development, schools and communities they live in.

She said UNICEF's role is to see how well the children are protected and if their rights are protected. "It is the envy of other countries in sub-Saharan Africa in the way it deals with HIV," she said.
