Botswana educational TV channel launched

Minister of Education and Skills Development has defended the Botswana government's decision to donate P1 million towards Japan's re-building efforts after the country suffered a major earthquake early this year.

Speaking at the official launch of the Botswana Educational Television channel yesterday at the Botswana Television auditorium, Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi said as friends of Japan, the government had to "do something after the major catastrophe" the country had suffered.

Venson-Moitoi said the P1 million that the government donated is far less in value than what Japan has contributed in partnering with them to spearhead the Botswana Educational Television channel. She said the whole project cost P22 million, with each country pitching in half of the money.
