BOTEC/RIPCO merger threatens 200 jobs

Close to 200 employees of the Botswana Technology Centre (BOTEC) and Rural Industries Promotional Company (RIPCO) are likely to be laid off once the envisaged merger of the two organisations take off, sources close to Mmegi have said.

According to unconfirmed reports, only 86 out of all employees of the two organisations will be retained to work in the new entity, while around 20 will be deployed to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology (MIST), which oversees the two parastatals.

Yesterday Christopher Nyanga, the principal public relations officer of MIST could not be drawn into discussing the redistribution of staff once the merge is completed.
