BOSETU-BTU War Rages On

The war between the Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) and the Botswana Secondary Teachers Union (BOSETU) is far from over. The BTU recently accused BOSETU of copying its model.

This comes after BOSETU announced that it will open its membership to teachers in pre-schools to tertiary education institutions like the Teachers Union of Namibia. The decision came after a BOSETU delegation visited the Teachers' Union of Namibia last April. BOSETU said it learnt a lot from the visit and delegates should not fear that they will go back to the old BTU.

"Ours will be different in that, we will create officers for different levels and these officers will report to the secretary general, who in turn will report to the executive. This is a challenge that we need to articulate and come up with a solution, or face the danger of becoming irrelevant," says a report from BOSETU.
