The Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) is scheduled to meet with public service employer Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) in early October to thrash out the issue of working hours for boarding masters and matrons, Mmegi has learnt.

Speaking to Mmegi in an interview yesterday, Topias Marenga, BOPEU general secretary said the union is expected to meet with the employer on October 5th.

Marenga said the Public Service Act of 2008, which became effective May 2010 had "conflicting conditions," which as unions, they expected the employer to have harmonised."The act says all public service employers will work for eight hours, but it doesn't specify how employees like boarding masters and matrons can work those hours," he said.  According to the act, employees are expected to work an eight-hour day spanning from 7.30 am to 4.30pm, however boarding master and matron duties extend beyond those hours.
