BOMASE's Basiame elected to BDP women's wing committee

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Botswana Democratic Party's (BDP) Bobirwa, Mmadinare and Selebi-Phikwe (BOMASE) specially nominated councillor Florah Basiame was elected as an additional member of the committee by 217 delegates at the BDP women's wing congress held in Kang over the weekend.

BOMASE secretary, Mmapula Mmidi-Phuduhudu, told Mmegi that the region is excited about Basiame's inclusion into the committee.  She expressed hope that first on the agenda should be to embrace all the talent that the different women will bring to the party. She noted that the committee comprises of lawyers, teachers, accountants who are expected to take the party to a higher level and also to improve political education.

"Education should include public speaking, debating and how to handle the media. The committee must also make the environment conducive for women from all backgrounds to embrace politics. At the moment, most women shy away from politics," she said.
