Bolus progam starts again despite previous hitches

After blowing over P160 million in a cattle tracing technology that never worked, ten years later the Ministry of Agriculture claims they are ready to roll out the bolus insertion program without hitches.

The Ministry of Agriculture announced early this month that they are starting a new campaign on bolus insertion to make up for the delay caused by the breakdown of the old version machines.

The bolus insertion program started with a sophisticated information technology in 1999 that cost government well over P160 million, has perhaps been the worst performing agricultural program ever, as it failed to live up to expectations. Before the program was audited, false impression was created beyond Botswana's borders that the program had reduced cattle rustling in the country by 60 per cent in just two years.
