Bolele's mother dies

FRANCISTOWN: The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has said it will not postpone the August 30 primaries for Mahalapye West constituency to allow one of the contenders, Bernard Bolele, to mourn and bury his mother who passed away this week.

"I don't think a postponement is possible," BDP deputy secretary, Fidelis Molao, said yesterday. He added it is likely that the primaries would be held as planned. The elections have attracted attention because Bolele is pitted against Vice-President, Mompati Merafhe.

Although funeral arrangements are yet to be made, Bolele revealed that his campaign is going to be badly affected. "I have to give attention to my late mother and see to it that all arrangements are made until she is laid to rest," he said. The BDP Bulela Ditswe (primaries) are billed for August 30, the date on which the Bolele and his family would possibly be laying their matriarch to rest. The Gaborone attorney trusts that all is not lost, his campaigners will do the best to ensure that he does not lose. "It's one of those things that happen to you in life when least expected," said the 39-year-old politician.
