GANTSI: The 16th Congress of the Botswana National Front (BNF) had a lot of dramatic twists. Leader Duma Boko arrived hand in hand with a very fine-looking young woman; the pair looking good together in party colours as a sure-fire prelude to imminent loss of bachelorhood.

Soon enough the 46-year old lawyer clearly had something important to say. And indeed he did, telling his party's national congress that unlike other political leaders, he did not want to flounder for want of a significant other. In the year preceding the congress, Boko had revealed his plans to marry but would not give any details.. But he now appeared with the woman - in the flesh - whose hand he intends to take in marriage. The name of the one destined to become Mrs Duma Boko before this year is out, as he told Mmegi later, is Kaone Mokganedi.

"I am going to marry her before the end of this year," Boko announced. "We have been together for many years and have a six-year old son." Although he was careful not to reveal too much to the media, he said Mokganedi is a lawyer working for a private firm. The prepossessing woman is 26-years old and hails from Moshupa. In an exclusive interview with Mmegi at Kalahari Arms Hotel here, Boko could not help waxing lyrical about his fiance."She is young and dynamic," he said. "Free-spirited and incredibly beautiful. I just love how her intelligence sparkles and her beauty bedazzles."
