Bojale Off To A Flying Start

Multitudes of Bakgatla women thronged the Mochudi main Kgotla on Saturday to revive the initiation ceremony - bojale - which was abandoned 20 years ago.

As it is the tradition, Bakgatla leader Kgosi Kgolo Kgafela II, dispatched the initiates and urged them to handle themselves in a proud manner throughout the initiation. It will take three weeks, and the women are billed to graduate and receive regimental name on June 20.

The Kgosi Kgolo's wife, Mohumagadi Mma Matshego, who is also undergoing the initiation, leads the Bojale rebirth.  A surprise appearance on the day was a member of South Africa's Bakgatla royalty in Moruleng.
