Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) has launched its countdown to the anticipated country-wide strike over failed salary negotiations, that will now be held on April 18.

Speaking at a press briefing in Gaborone yesterday, BOFEPUSU Secretary General and President of the Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) Andrew Motsamai said that the strike will last 10 days. "We are talking about a total withdrawal of labour on these days and thereafter, if the employer has not said anything, as according to advice from the union leadership, we may return to work on go-slow or continue with total withdrawal of labour," Motsamai said.

"It will cost the country billions of Pula as it will involve more than 90 percent of all workers in the education sector, health sector, land boards, local authorities, all departments of all ministries at headquarters and district levels.
