BOFEPUSU defies govt on opposition meeting

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Botswana Federation of Public Service Unions (BOFEPUSU) will meet opposition parties this week as scheduled, in defiance of correspondence from government warning them not to do so. BOFEPUSU is scheduled to meet opposition leaders to intervene in the cooperation talks.

During the strike party organised by Selebi-Phikwe region last Saturday, BOFEPUSU official, Johnson Motshwarakgole confirmed that they received a fax from government on Friday afternoon warning them that they should not meet with opposition leaders as it would be a violation of the Public Service Act.

He stressed that they are going ahead nonetheless because BOFEPUSU is a legally registered federation comprising of legally registered trade unions. "The Public Service Act controls the public service not trade unions.
