The Botswana Confederation of Commerce, Industry and Manpower (BOCCIM) is to receive three million Euros (P30 million) from the European Union and the Centre for Development of Enterprise for the implementation of the private sector economic development strategy.

The strategy includes efforts to coordinate the economic diversification drive by the private sector, BOCCIM president Alex Monchusi told the High Level Consultative Council (HLCC) in Gaborone yesterday. "We trust that this strategy will augment the initiatives of government," Monchusi said, announcing that the strategy will be implemented in 2012.

Following a presidential directive on the economic diversification drive (EDD), the government has embarked on plans to promote the growth of a vibrant and globally competitive private sector, as well as to move Botswana's economy from its over-dependence on diamonds.
