SELEBI-PHIKWE: Many villages in Bobirwa are recovering from the effects of last week's floods that rendered people homeless and blocked access to the Tuli Block tourism area. The floods caused the closure of Pont's Drift border post for sometime.

About 65 people who are mostly workers on the Tuli Block farms were airlifted out of danger by police helicopters.Tourists who were in the area during the floods were kept safe in the airfield. Bobirwa District Officer, Ewetse Selelo said that the overflow from the Limpopo River spread about 500 metres from the bank. The water flooded homes and forced the authorities to airlift residents to safety.

Mabate Bridge collapsed because of the floods,  thereby cutting off the Tuli Block. "There were tourists in the Tuli when the disaster struck but they were taken to a place of safety at the airfield and no life was lost," Selelo said.He added that the Shalimpo area became a temporary island surrounded by water. Crocodiles from Limpopo River were seen swimming towards Shalimpo, hence people stranded there had to be airlifted out.
