BOB Suspends Auditor Over Sex Claims

There are claims that the man has threatened to spill the beans on a number of irregularities he claims are taking place at the bank. The investigating team is reported to be having trouble with the case. Close sources have stated that many of the bank's former employees whose testimonies are crucial to the case are refusing to help the investigating team. The bank has been investigating the allegations for the past three months. It is understood that two months ago, the bank's board turned down a request to be briefed about the matter. The board said it could only be briefed once the investigations are complete.
Sources allege that the bank management barred the female employee from taking the matter to the police. Monitor's efforts to get a comment from the suspended auditor drew a blank. He immediately hung up the phone when confronted about the issue.
Bank of Botswana spokesman Chepete Chepete confirmed the investigation but said the details of the grievances are purely an internal matter. "Any alleged breach of the bank's code of conduct or grievances by staff members are handled in accordance with the bank's general condition of service," he said.
