BNYC issues are before court

The Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Shaw Kgathi, would not give Parliament a statement on allegations of mismanagement at the Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC) on Friday because matters raised are still before court.

Kgathi was responding to Gaborone South Member of Parliament (MP) Kagiso Molatlhegi who wanted him to verify reports that a suspended director of BNYC was still in possession of a company car and phone, and was still using company allowances to refill fuel and airtime. 

Molatlhegi also alleged that board members had appointed themselves members of sub-committees under the board and called numerous meetings in order to get sitting allowances. The Gaborone South MP said reports were rife that sub-committee members had raised their nights-out per diem allowances for overnight trips from P150 to P400 per night.
