BNF Youth Wing Kicks Out Phaladi

In a sensitive issue that has so far divided the warring party leadership, the Botswana National Front Youth League (BNFYL) has expelled Organising Secretary and councillor for Bophirima Ward Malema Phaladi from its Central Committee.

Phaladi, whose name featured in the BNF's Gaborone City Council elections report, is accused of conspiring with fellow councillors Leano Matsheka and Harry Mothei to topple Village Ward councillor and BNFYL president Nelson Ramaotwana as Gaborone City Mayor.
A three-man youth wing's disciplinary hearing chaired by one of Ramaotwana's close allies, Lobatse councillor Tefo Pule, concluded that Phaladi disobeyed a directive from party Secretary General, Akanyang Magama who had instructed all BNF councillors to vote for Ramaotwana in the mayoral elections.

A letter of expulsion served on Phaladi February 21 states that he (Phaladi) has been found guilty of misconduct as he proposed and voted in BDP caucus council committees, contrary to the BNF's code of discipline.
"In the circumstances, I have been directed by the BNFYL executive committee to inform you that in accordance with the Central Committee resolutions on the 28th; you are hereby notified that you have been expelled from the BNFYL Central
Committee with immediate effect," reads the letter from the Youth Wing's Secretary General, Tona Mooketsi.
