BNF snubbed by ANC in regional seminar

The Botswana National Front (BNF) has not been invited to the high profile regional political seminar organised by the Africa National Congress (ANC) in South Africa, an omission that has raised eyebrows and been described as a snub by critics due to the long standing friendship between the two parties. ANC has instead invited the ruling Botswana Democratic Party.

The BNF and ANC are historical political friends who pursue leftist politics, whilst the ruling BDP is a capitalist party. The seminar dubbed 'Capacity building programme for senior party managers', sources have revealed, is sponsored by the ANC and is being attended by political parties in the Southern African Development Committee (SADC) region. It started on Monday and is expected to end on October 19th.

The BDP secretary general Mpho Balopi said yesterday that they have sent a six-member delegation to South Africa to take part in the seminar. The delegation is led by the ruling party's Political Education and Elections Committee (PEEC) chief Bernard Bolele and includes among others Sylvia Muzila, Anderson Kambimba, former youth chairman Fankie Motsaathebe. Balopi said that they are enjoying a cordial relationship with the South African ruling ANC.
