BNF Protests As Mangole Gets Kgatleng West

KGATLENG WEST: Botswana National Front (BNF) supporters cried foul when Gilbert Mangole of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) was announced the next MP for Kgatleng West on Saturday evening.

Mangole garnered 5,493 votes beating Jerry Rasetshwane of the BNF with a margin of 676. Joseph Monametsi of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) got 2,676 while Alfred Pilane who was an independent candidate managed 565 votes.

A total of 13,764 people cast their vote, 217 of which were spoilt. The BDP got four council seats out of the six that were contested for in the Kgatleng West constituency. There will be a re-run after a tie between BDP's Patrick Hersey and BCP's Phillip Lebotse with 431 votes in one of the wards in the constituency. The constituency had a record nine independent candidates but only one from Rasesa ward made it to council. "I am happy and humbled that Kgatleng West voted me to be their voice in Parliament. I guess time was ripe for me to go to Parliament after being a councillor for the past 10 years," said Mangole, who added that when he decided to stand for parliamentary elections he knew he was going to win.
