BNF keeps popular vote by skin of teeth

Contrary to popular belief the Botswana National Front narrowly escaped being upstaged by the Botswana Congress Party in popular votes according to recent collated results of the recent general elections.

The BCP garnered 19.2 per cent of the popular or 104 302 total votes, while the BNF got 21.9 per cent which is 119 509 votes. This is a difference of 2.7 per cent. However if one adds the 2.3 percent garnered by the Botswana Alliance Movement, BCP's cooperation partners, the total by BCP/BAM group stands at 21.5 per cent (116 689) , a mere 0.4 per cent (or 2 820 votes) behind the belleaguered main opposition party.

The Botswana Democratic Party at 53.3 per cent (290 099) increased its lead over the BNF. While the BDP led the BNF by 25.6 per cent it is now 31.5 per cent away from the opposition party.
