BNF could lose plot for Kopano House

*Threat comes when project is at design stage

GANTSI: The Ministry of Lands and Housing has served the Botswana National Front (BNF) with a letter of intent to repossess a plot allocated to the opposition party in 1985 for lack of development, Mmegi has established.Party president Duma Boko revealed this when he officially opened the 16th National Congress of the BNF here over the President's Day weekend.

The BNF intended to build its headquarters on the plot, an illusive project that Boko described as one of the most intransigent challenges the party has ever faced. The headquarters was to be known as Kopano House, taking its name from the slogan by which the BNF is known. The blow comes at a time when the project is at design stage, although the BNF is struggling to find money to pay for the drawings. "Some individuals within the party have even not just oversimplified the challenges associated with the project but they have also sought to insult the leadership ... accusing it of not doing enough to commence development of the House," Boko said. "However, we have so far responded to the letter of intent to repossess by the ministry and we have stated reasons why we feel it should not be repossessed."  Seeking to set the record straight, he said the project had been pursued vigorously over the last several months through the office of the party presidency which had assembled a task team of professionals to superintend the design of Kopano House and other challenges associated with the project.
