Botswana National Front (BNF) spokesperson, Justin Hunyepa, has told MmegiOnline that the party central committee (CC) will soon meet and decide on dates for the party primaries.

Different political parties usually announce dates for their primary elections around this time of the year to screen those who will represent them (political parties) in the General Election.

This year, all parties seem to be behind as none of the political parties is yet to announce dates for the primaries.

Speaking to MmegiOnline, Hunyepa said: "The central committee is holding its meeting soon and the issue of party primary elections will be on the agenda. Again, the delimitation process is the one which we were waiting for as for constituencies and wards, the demarcation process will have to be finished first," he said.

Hunyepa added that primary elections are also determined by the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), which they are affiliated with. He said it will again depend on the number of constituencies they are given.

Another UDC affiliate is Botswana People's Party (BPP), while Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) has clearly stated that it will be working with the UDC, its cooperation model has not been defined.

MmegiOnline has also learnt that negotiation talks amongst the parties are at an advanced stage.

Meanwhile, the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has admitted that it has not set dates for primary elections as yet.
