BMWU national chair vies for BFTU top position

SELEBI PHIKWE: Botswana Mine Workers Union's national chairman Chimbidzani Chimidza has confirmed that he will run for the position of Secretary-General during the Botswana Federation of Trade Union's national congress billed for this weekend.

If he wins, Chimidza will hold two positions because his term at the BMWU will continue for a longer time. It will be the first time that a national chairman of an affiliate union runs for a BFTU position.

Chimidza said he believes that the BFTU needs to engage the government and BOCCIM on an equal footing, and that government should realize that the BFTU is not an enemy but a partner that wishes to see the country prosper and create more employment opportunities.
