BMWU leadership cobbles strategic plan

PALAPYE: The top brass of Botswana Mine Workers Union (BMWU) has gathered here this week to come up with a five-year strategic plan to be adopted at the union's next council meeting.

Speaking at the workshop, BMWU Secretary General Jack Tlhagale said the strategic plan was overdue because the last one adopted in 2003 and was expected to run for five years.

"BMWU currently has close to 10 000 members with 14 branches and their mandate is to fight for workers rights in the mining and quarry industries," Tlhagale said. "The union's logo needs to be revamped because it has come under criticism. This workshop must come up with ideas of revamping it."
