BMWU chiefs must go - disgruntled branches

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Some Botswana Mine Workers Union (BMWU) branches are disgruntled at the way the union runs its affairs and want the National Executive Committee (NEC) to resign.

The burning issues range from misappropriation of funds to failure to elect a vice president.

Informed sources told Mmegi yesterday that after the death of Golekanye Mogende, who was the union's president, branches were divided over his successor. "There were fights for the former national treasurer Lentsifetse Masilo to take over, but some branches opposed the move on the grounds that he failed to account for some expenditure in the financial report at the last triennial congress. We finally settled for Rex Tambula."
